Power Stations

There are three types 

of solar power stations

 depending on

their designation:

  • on-grid,
  • stand-alone,
  • hybrid.

Let’s consider each of them

in more detail.

On-grid solar power station under the Green Tariff consists of two main elements:

– photovoltaic solar panels – designed to convert solar energy into electrical energy

– inverter designed to convert direct current (DC) into an alternating current (AC). 

The electricity generated by solar panels is supplied to consumers through the grid-tie inverter. If the solar power station generates more electricity than consumed by consumers, then the excess of the produced electricity is supplied to the public grid and sold at advantageous Green Tariffs – 0.18 €. At night and on cloudy days, You will consume electricity from the public grid and pay for it at a general tariff. It should be noted, however, that in case of grid-down, the grid-tie inverter will stop exporting power to the grid.

It is very important for the solar power station under the Green Tariff to install a bidirectional electricity meter, capable of recording electricity sold and consumed.

This type of power stations is appropriate for objects connected to public grids and in case You desire to reduce the electricity costs and make money by selling electricity under the Green Tariff.

If You install a solar power station with higher capacity than You need for Your own consumption, it will yield a regular profit. Taking into consideration the fact that the warranty on photovoltaic modules is 10 years, while the period of their service is 25-40 years and the Green Tariff is valid until 2030, installation of a solar power station under the Green Tariff is a good investment, the payback period of which is 4-7 years.

For that reason, solar power stations under the Green Tariff are the most popular among customers.

Stand-alone solar power station consists of four main elements:

  1. photovoltaic solar panels – designed to convert solar energy into electrical energy
  2. charge controller designed to control the battery charge level
  3. batteries designed to accumulate the electrical energy
  4. inverter designed to convert direct current (DC) into an alternating current (AC).

The electricity generated by solar panels goes to the charge controller and inverter and, then, is supplied to consumers. On sunny days, there is more electricity generated than needed to ensure an electric power supply for consumers. Therefore, the excess of the generated energy is accumulated in batteries. On cloudy days and at night, consumers are supplied with electricity accumulated in batteries.

This type of power stations is appropriate for objects not connected to public grids and which need a continuous power supply (inaccessibility of power lines, remote commercial facilities and private states).

 

Hybrid solar power station combines the advantages of the On-grid and Stand-alone solar power stations and consists of the following elements:

photovoltaic solar panels – designed to convert solar energy into electrical energy

charge controller пdesigned to control the battery charge level

batteries designed to accumulate the electrical energy

hybrid inverter designed to convert direct current (DC) into an alternating current (AC) 

The electricity generated by solar panels is fed to the battery through the charge controller and, then, is supplied to consumers through the hybrid inverter. The surplus electricity supply is exported to the public grid. At night and on cloudy days, You will consume electricity from the public grid. In case of grid-down, the grid-tie inverter will work in autonomous mode and consumers will be supplied with electricity accumulated in batteries.

This type of power stations is appropriate for objects connected to public grids and those having frequent power failures. It also provides a means to reduce the electricity costs, make money by selling electricity under the Green Tariff and ensure uninterruptible power supply to the main electricity consumers (boiler, refrigerating equipment, lightning) or the whole house.
